Penn State Phryday

Yinzers,

Not too much to report from Happy Valley. The five days of beautiful weather and beautiful girls are over. Today's weather is in the low 50s and it is gloomy as all getup. This is depressing after the last five days of high 60s to high 70s and sunshine, but it's Pennsylvania. There are only three full weeks of classes left, then one week of finals and then commencement week. It is truly depressing for yours truly, as I will be graduating on May 15th. It has been a great four years here and I will miss it. But enough about me, let's talk Nittany Lions.

First off, congratulations to the Lady Lions' Tyra Grant for being selected 24th overall by the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury. It is a true testament to her skill, being selected from a Lady Lion squad that fizzled out about half way through the NCAA season. I personally know nothing about the WNBA, have never watched a WNBA game and do not know anyone who does, but it is still a professional league and entry into such a league deserves recognition. Congratulations Tyra and good luck.

The Penn State baseball team has had an up-and-down season thus far. Since they were last mentioned, the Nittany Lion baseball team under coach Rob Wine swept their 3-game series with Hofstra, split a home-and-home series with Kent State and dropped 2 out of 3 in Illinois. This weekend, the Nittany Lions welcome Northwestern for their first Big-10 home stand.

The countdown is now 2 weeks. There are just 2 weeks separating us from the spring football game on April 24th. For most of Nittany Nation and the Penn State campus, the biggest event outside of spring break for the spring semester is the Blue/White football game. It gives us a chance to see what the fall will hold and get a small football fix before the summer withdrawal.

This weekend is also the biggest urban gaming tournament in the east. Student groups from nearly 15 universities are converging on the University Park campus in order to play a giant game of humans v. zombies...or simply "tag." This urban gaming is growing in popularity, but I still compare them to the kids of yore who played dungeons and dragons...if you take a look at most of these kids...they do both of said activities. We'll see how much of a distraction it is at the Eberly College of Science open house.

Have a great weekend. Raise up your glasses, let's share a pint. Jump up and down and have a rowdy night.

For the Glory,
B Brog
