Thursday Igloo Update

Yinzers,

My bad on the late post, it has been a long day...loonnnnng day. Anyway, on to business. There has only been one Pens game since Monday and it just so happened to take place yesterday evening. It was a hockey night in Pittsburgh as the New York Islanders made the trip from, Nassau? Exsqueezeme? Baking powder? I could have sworn Nassau was in a place with crystal clear water, blue skies and white, sandy beaches...not the one that is buried under about 36" of snow. After their trek through the snow-capped Appalachians, the island dwellers found a new type of two-headed monster...neither the hydra of Greek myth nor the Malkby of western Pennsylvania myth. Tonight they faced the two-headed beast of Evgeni Malkin and none other than Chris Kunitz, making his way out of the woodwork.

The first period showed no scoring and really not too much of note. What are your thoughts on Tyler Kennedy v. Matt Martin? I think Kennedy is by far more charismatic but we'll see what the jury has to say. They fought in the first period, in case you didn't see the game. The second period is where the scoring began. Chris Kunitz put his first of two away at 10:33 off a little dish from Evgeni Malkin and Brooks "free candy" Orpik (Versus and NBC take note: there is no 'e' in 'Orpik'). Evgeni Malkin got in on the act at 17:00 on the nose with his 21st of the season from fellow countryman Sergei Gonchar and Mark "goal fever" Eaton. The Pens were up 2-0 after 2 complete. The third period scoring opened up almost half way through with the Isles getting a tally from Danish-born Frans Nielsen. Chris Kunitz then added another goal at 14:48 with the assist going to Billy Guerin. Truck looked upon the game and was pleased to see BG. Suprisingly, there were NO power play goals in this game. But hey, a win is a win. The Pens came out one point behind the New Jersey Devils for 1st place in the Atlantic and 2nd overall.

The next contest will be between your Pittsburgh Penguins and the other team from New York City, the Rangers. Tomorrow night will be another hockey night in Pittsburgh. Game time is 7:30 on FSN-Pittsburgh.

In other news, your SHL White team played on Monday night, spanking the pants off of the league-leading Blue team by a count of 8-2. White power's next game is tonight at 10:30 when they take on the Orange team.

Lets Go Pens,
B Brog
