Igloo Update Thursday

Yinzers,

Monday night, the Pens took on the Banana Slugs-dang it- Sabres of Buffalo. Two words: Sidney Crosby. Ladies and gentlemen, the contest started out as a power struggle, but then captain Sid took control. Mark Letestu opened up the scoring early, only 47 seconds into the game with his first of the year since being recalled from Wilkes-Barre. Buffalo then answered with goals coming from Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek at 5:15 and 6:03 respectively, giving the Banana Slugs a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. There was a lull in the action until 7:32 in the second when Tim Kennedy put one home for Buffalo. Right about that time, Sidney Crosby took the game into his own hands. Sid scored on the power play at 10:53, followed by a Jordan Staal goal and two more Crosby goals at 17:30 and 18:55, giving Sid his third hat trick of the season and tying him with Patrick Marleau for the league lead in goals. Buffalo did put one home late off the stick of Jason Pomonville, but to no avail. The Pens hold on and take this one 5-4.

News from around the league:
Last night was supposed to be the best time for the Atlanta Thrashers to trade Ilya Kovalchuk. There were talks with the New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers and Las Angeles Kings to acquire the Russian scorer. However, last night ended with no deals made. If you look around the league headlines today, it's all about Atlanta boning up on their efforts to move the merchandise.

The Pens next game is Saturday at 2:00 when they take on Le Habitants (Canadians). The game is back on FSN Pittsburgh so we don't have to hear announcers talk about how great the opposing team is.

Lets go Pens,
B Brog
