Super Friday!

Hey Yinzers,

So I just woke up. Yep that is the truth. I watched the Penguins win in Atlanta last night after a huge day of Christmas Shopping. A Rod has texted me from the Snow Fort known as his parents house in Colorado. He sent me some pictures of Mule Deer everywhere. I know I know so what does this have to do with the late blog- nothing.....move on.

Like I said Pittsburgh won 6-3 last night in a legal scrimmage against the Thrashers. The return Of MAF was unbelievable. The goals that were scored on him where totally legit- he was screened on two of them. Thank goodness that the king of the crease is back! Sid and Geno are getting sicker by he day. About ten minutes ago EST Max Talbot singed a two year extension to stay with club along with Ryan Whitney being reassigns to WBS for conditioning.

So if you live under a rock and did not know the AFC regular season crown will be decided in the Music City this weekend as the Tennessee Titans host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Home Field is on the line and the #1 ranking with a bye week. Plus I would love to beat the OLD Houston Oliers franchise that was so nasty back in the day with Warren Moon.
Here is the game break down:
-Kerry Collins is back from the dead for the 4th time in his career. His crack ediction is ceased and he is playing great ball.
-Where is Vince Young? probably shirtless in a club........
-A. Hanesworth is out of this game, that is the Titans polamalu.......
We need a big offensive game to set the pace for the playoff run.

So after watching a bunch of football over the weekend I have the two best hits for you that I could find on the Net. As you know the Gamecocks had a tough loss to the LSU tigers but watch this clip where the Ref takes a blatant cheap shot at our QB Steven Garcia- ridiculous.

Check out this Jaw breaking hit by Hines Ward on Sunday when the Steelers Smashed the Bengals. IT was totally legal.everyone is bitching but you know he is the most physical reciever in the NFl.

Don't Pick Us!

Hey Yinzers,

So the steelers are banged up knocked down and after last night they are 4-1 heading into the bye week. Well kiss it. I know I know everyone picked the Jax to beat us including alot of Pittsburgh People. When will people realize that the Steelers this year are really good. There are alot of things that we have to address though:

1. O-Line: the Oline is holding on by a thread, But I will take it! This is why you draft 2 and 3 deep at pro positions. If they were not good in this league they would not be on our roster.

2. Keep Ben from Fetal position: this goes with the first thing about the O line- wake up pick up blocks and give him time in the pocket. No more Alan Faneca references please.

3. Keep Jeff Reed from hurting himself. Last night it was reported late that Jeff reed while warming up on the sidelines injured himself- we will find out today the extent of the injury. This is the most significant injury. Reed is the best and most consistent steeler we have on many levels. Please hope for a fast recovery.

Penguins Hockey

The Pens opened the 2008- 2009 season in Stockholm Sweden , great. Thanks for letting us not see all of the games on VS. Because of wacky scheduling and ( my work schedule) I didn't get to see one ounce of Pens hockey this weekend. Give me a break. We split the series 1-1 with the Ottawa Crybabies. Pens next game is Saturday at the Igloo vs the Devils.

Gamecocks

Ok , Who let this team in? A team that doesn't give up , a Team that came back twice- give me a break. Chris Smelley looked magnificent in the big win over OLE miss this weekend. For a team that has been ridiculed all over town this weekend - way to go out and outplay, out coach and out - win another sub par team. This win is big for alot of reasons, first of all Ole Miss was coming off of beating Florida. We on the other hand are trying to put the season back together one game at a time. - This week we go into Lexington and I hope we kick Rich Brooks and those kitty kats. Man I hate KY.

Ugly Betty!

Hey Yinzers,

Steelers played a knockdown drag out game against the ravens last night. To say the least It was rough. We also lost some players( for the year) that may be done for quite a while. Rashard Mendenhall is done for the season with a broken shoulder, Kendal Simmons is done for the season suffering a Achilles injury and Cary Davis was taken to the locker room with a ankle injury. This all started with the opening kickoff when Andre Frasier was injured with a spine injury .

This is quite unfortunate and now we have to see how good our replacements are. We can still win the division and we can still make a run, but we may have to make some moves to keep Ben safe. Ben has no time in the pocket to make a decision or to have a pocket not collapse on him like a few years ago. The O line is our weakness and the running game has suffered quite a loss from last night. But we are 3-1, our games have been close and we are playing the toughest schedule in league history. Steeler fans should not bitch , they should go ahead and still think we can be in every game. I would rather deal with season ending injuries than with those dumb asses in Dallas with their drama of oh throw the ball to me?!@#$%. Thank god I am a Steelers fan.

In the world of sports broadcasting there is allot of backtracking as the big name teams fall , left and right. A week ago the Trojans of USC California were said to be unbreakable , unstoppable and Beaver proof. Well that is not the case they fell for the second time in three years to the feet of The Oregon State Beavers. Well just like a bad breakup the sports writers will now plead for the Trojans to take them back and if they do run the table will win the PAC 10 and meet in the BCS- ah but will they get to play for something? NAH .....probably not. Nice work beavers!



Steelers



You know when you were little and you went to school on a rainy Friday and just didn't want to be there so you "fake a cough and had a fever" ( well I did) and your grandma would show up and get you instant half day. That is how I feel about watching the Steelers on Monday night it is really either going to be quite a beating or we are going to take one. I am very worried without the presence of Willie Parker and "Big Snack" Casey Hampton. Plus there are rumblings on the message boards about the Tomlin era already, I know it is going to take time, and with a fixed line we could be a threat. as of right now the AFC is totally up for grabs. Steelers - Ravens 8:30 Monday night.



Pitt basketball



So Pitt basketball coach Jamie Dixon got an extension, and he will be heading the panthers for a few more years. That is great maybe we can win an elite 8 game before I apply for AARP. Congrats - please win the big one.

Penguins are in Toronto for a preseason scrimmage game at 7:30pm tonight- please no more injuries.

Ryder me Home!!!!

Hey Yinzers,

Well the Heckler and I had a roaring good time in Louisville this past week. With it all culminating driving home at 5am yesterday morning. As you might not have known We went to the Louisville Cardinal game vs K-state on Wednesday night played lots of golf and then went to Day Cabin in Paoli Indiana. It was my fall trip to see the Heckler and his clan - we had a great time and I thank them for all their hospitality.

What the hell? The US beat the Euro's for the Ryder Cup. Everyone and their brother picked the Euro's to just destroy us. But with Azingers's band of the most unruly and non-tiger golfers they beat them . That's right no Tiger Woods.

Steelers = Terrible

Steelers O line with Ben on his back cost us the game yesterday. I feel bad for the Brognano Brothers up at state college who will now get harassed by every fare weather Philly fan because of the loss to the Eagles- sorry guys don't worry the rest of that division is super weak this year, the Skins, cowgirls and Giants are such pushovers( yeah right). Could someone please block for Ben and give him more than 2 seconds to throw the ball- give me a break. Oh well bring on the Rat birds on Monday night.

A new jobber

Tonight I go back to hosting a radio shift here in the Columbia SC area, We don't have a name for it but whatever. If you are interested I will be on from 11pm - 5:30am the graveyard shift. Oh yeah- I think it will be great! Listen at new92.com or 92.1 in the local area.

Gamecock me

As for the gamecocks- we struggled with Wofford and as any Gamecock fan knows this is big trouble. We Have UAB coming to town and year after year they are no pushover. The gamecocks are starting to look real bad real fast- and with the bottom part of the schedule we really need a play caller who knows what the hell we are capable of. Stop calling above the Athleticism of our athletes this is not Florida, get a clue.

Goodbye Olympics!

Hey Yinzers,

Goodbye China, Goodbye friends and Goodbye Olympics! After the news being saturated with Micheal Phelps and Olympic fever it is finally over.

The NFL is gearing up for a large weekend of pre-season football: the Steelers are playing the Minnesota Vikings at 8pm on CBS. I am looking forward to see whom is going to make the team. I believe that our offense is pretty much set , but our Defense that we hinge our lives on is still not looking impressive. But the Heckler called me and gave me reassurance that Dick Lebou Never shows what kind of plan he has for the 2008 season.............



So I have gone back to college for the three hundredth year in a row, and the University of South Carolina Athletics has implemented a new ticketing system and it is a bust. Tickets went on computer last night for students at midnight, but of course the request for tickets - the actual website was to clogged with every freshman in the county trying to get tickets. Then after you request you have to go back and claim your tickets with in three days, if you do not complete this process a total of 5 times in your College career you are kicked off the system- dumb.
What happened to sleeping outside in the rain and the cold, drinking having fun missing class etc- for games. So now kids are even more sissy than ever lets stay at home and log on to the computer at midnight. - double dumb.

In recent Steelers Camp News Troy Polamalu is back. Finally the Flying Hawaiian is back- after signing a huge contract last year. Troy has been not really affective in fact he has been kind of quiet. He is by far one of my favorite Steelers of all time. But I think that the best is yet to come with Troy. All the Na Sayers will eat their hat when he lays one of his dominating hits this season. GO get em' 43!

In Monday night Football the other night, the Cleveland Browns whom are supposed to challenge the Steelers for Division Leadership and eventually a championship. Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson left Monday night's 37-34 exhibition loss to the New York Giants early in the second quarter with what the team said was a possible concussion. Brady( Lady) Quinn will now take the reigns of the NFL franchise. Oh well I'm a Steelers Guy.

Madden Curse

So every year millions upon millions of 30 year old men wait until the unavailing of the Madden Curse or better known as the Cover. With this years "Brett Farve" who will be the real loser- Brett or The Packers. HE is in Packers Gear on the cover. Here is whom has been affected by the curse:

• In 2000 Barry sanders was on the Cusp of reaching 2000 yards, and because of appearing on the cover- he did not make it
• In 2001 Eddie George was not affected by the Curse in fact he made his third straight pro bowl( well Nix where are you going with this)
• In 2002 Dante Culpepper was hit with the curse and had back problems in week 11
• IN 2003 Marshal Faulk Fell to an ankle injury and that pretty much put him down for the rest of his career.
  
• IN 2004 Micheal Vick bought his first dog he was going to fight and a few days after the cover came out, he broke his leg in a pre season game. This is where things have gotten creepy.....

• in 2005 Ray Lewis dawned the cover and for the first time in his career he failed to have one interception. Also rival and greatest team ever completed their quest for one for the Thumb.
• In 2006 week 11 again put Donavan Mcnab down with a groin injury, he went to say that it was an honor to be on the cover and that the curse would not affect him. Oh by the way season done in week 11

• In 2007 Shawn Alexander broke his foot and failed to rush for a 1000 yard season for the first time in his career. He also was a na- sayer about the curse- stating that just like Mcnabb I am a total Idiot.

• In 2008 Vince young was hit with a Quad injury in the final game of the season, but came to find out that he lost his keys every Sunday after the games. He also is cursed with playing for the Titans.

Vacation Friday!

Hey Yinzers,

So I decided to take a few days for myself and am actually writing this from a bungalow from a water front resort wondering why the Steelers looked really flat last night. I had a great time with the Brognano clan from Pittsburgh as we watched the steelers game at Oscars bar and eatery. We even met a local Pittsburgh Celebrity- find out Monday to see whom it was!

I have decided as usual that the Pittsburgh Steeler fan base is out of control. There were over 400 steeler fans in full get-up at Oscars , we had to arrive at 5 o'clock just to get a seat.The Steeler Nation even on Vacation has their priorities straight as an arrow.

As for the First team , Great pass and catch( touchdown ) from Ben To Sanintono Holmes last night. We struck early and then the Scrubs came in . Final score was 24-21 Bills. I do not think that welcoming the Bills to Toronto is a good thing. With the way that the NBA is looking to expand worldwide , I want to keep Football home. I want it here in the states- I think it is great that worldwide that there are Steeler blogs and sites but I want it to stay right where it is- in the USA.

I met allot of great people last night and when we can get the Pictures uploaded on Monday I will recap the whole experience.

I got really sun burnt yesterday , the worst i have ever been. Umm Alex can I have things that are bright Red for a 1000.

As for my football calendar for this year is starting to fill up, Like I said before I will be in Penn State for the season opener vs. Coastal Carolina. Hanging with the Brognano brothers I learned of the rich tradition and the insanity before every game. Remember the Fans, not the players make the sport experience. THE PENN STATE EXPERIENCE

Two days before my venture to Penn State I will be at the Home opener for the Carolina gamecocks, as NIxheckler wrote we lost the in court battle to Southern Cal for the Rights to be called SC- dumb. Who Cares. Even off the field we loose again.

In Huge Olympics news , Micheal Phelps is defiantly one of the best athletes of the century, i have heard on allot of news programs that he is not. How come? Is it because that swimming is not a Main stream sport. think about it. he has more medals than any Olympian in history , his medal count even outweighs Mexico and India lifetime.

We will continue with the results and the final couple match ups of the MSM death tournament and start getting into full swing for the College and Pro football season.

Expansion Monday!

Hey Yinzers,

So everyone put on your hardhats, there are going to be major changes on the MSM in the next few weeks and this past weekend we took a gigantic step in making the blog a lot better.

We would like to welcome to the MSM family , Cowboy Troy who stopped by the studio and was one of the nicest human beings that I have ever met! Along with Troy I met Chris and Jason from CoalTrain. They are both Yinzers and huge stiller fans. I look forward to hearing from these guys throughout the season. Recap of the Steelers 16 Eagles 10:

I am very happy with the opening game in preseason from the Steelers. The first team offense including the O line looked impressive. Can someone stop Willie Parker? I do not think so. Ben looked amazing and Linus Sweed and Mr. Mendenhol look like they will be in Steeler Black and Gold for a Very long time.

The only negative as I am sure that you know is that our backup QB Charlie Batch will be out , with a broken collar bone for 4-6 weeks. The Steelers wasted no time in going out and trying to find a Backup for Ben immediately. They are talking to long time JAG Byron Leftwich. A deal could be done early Monday Morning.

Defense looked pretty damn good. It is time for Larry and the Boys to open it up on our schedule this year. I hope that all this talk about Anthony Smith is just attitude and rumor. It was being said that he is kind of being childish at practice and not taking his role seriously. I hope maybe that someone can talk to him and right the ship. Because as Steeler fans know the Rooney's will not put up with attitude and crap like that. You are only as good as the people around you.

UFC 87

So, Saturday night we had a problem with the cable network and did not get to see the UFC pay per view. Kind of a bummer. But from what I have read Brock Lesnar won a decision in his fight 30-26. This pretty much saved his career in MMA. Dana White president of UFC said he was very impressed with Lesnar and the way he approached the fight.

Everyone else that was supposed to win pretty much did so, oh and George Rush is a Freak of Nature. Note to self do not fight him in this lifetime.

MSM death tournament

So as we continue to wind down to the final matches in the MSM death tournament I can't thank yinz enough for all the comments and scenarios that I could never think of in a million years to make it quite a little event.

Over the weekend it was pretty clear that even though the Olympics is in full swing- the Huxtables were almost untouched/scathed in the battle with Uncle Sam. They will continue on in the tournament.

More news from camp Justin Hartwig has been brought into clean up the Mahan spot from last year. the biggest fear for me this season being a Steeler Fan is both our Lines. Defensive not so much - but offensive line I am very worried.

My other concern is the Punter position, with our guy down with the ACL blues What are we to do? Is it Gramatica time? ( prob not)

What the heck is happening in the MSM death tournament as of 7:15 last night we are still tied with the Batman/Ric Flair Match up. This is like one of those car accidents from the Original Blues Brothers where the Cars keep hitting each other again and again and again ..................... THE CHASE SCENE!





Batman wins the marathon as Rick Flairs old body cannott keep up with this summers greatest super hero. Batman contiues to the semis!
