Monday Igloo Update

Yinzers,

Camp Byelsma is upon us with the prospect camp beginning last week on September 10 in London, Ontario, Canada. They will be playing a few games against the prospects from the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators. The Penguins' prospects will be led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coaches John Hynes and Alain Nasreddine. Notable prospects taking part are Eric Tangradi, Dustin Jeffrey, Simon Despres, Carl Sneap and Nick Petersen. The Penguins' prospects grabbed a 5-3 victory from the Ottawa Senators' prospects on Saturday. Dustin Jeffrey and Zach Sill each had 2 goals while Kevin Veilleux added another. Defenseman Alex Grant left the game on a stretcher after being hit from behind in the first period. He was released from the hospital yesterday and is doing well, outside of a broken wrist and whiplash. The team then went on to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs' prospects 2-1. Goaltender Brad Thiessen stopped 23 of 24 while Geoff Walker and Dustin Jeffrey added the tallies for the Penguins. In two games, the Penguins are 12 of 13 on the penalty kill. Keep it up young'ns.

Last Tuesday night, a few of the Penguins got to go to the pre-game practice of the Pittsburgh Pirates, hopefully to instill a winning attitude in the Buccos. Some standouts on the baseball diamond included Sidney Crosby, Max Talbot, Craig Adams and Pascal Dupuis. It was intended to be a day of bonding for the team and left-handed slugger Sidney Crosby ended up clearing the 21 foot, right field wall. You can see tons of pictures from the event at this link.

Camp Byelsma strikes this Friday at Consol Energy Center. The first two days of on-ice practice, Saturday September 18 and Sunday September 19, will be open to the public. There are more details about attending and such here. The whole schedule of preseason events can be found on the Penguins' website or by following this link.

For the fourth year in a row, the Pittsburgh Penguins' players set out from Consol Energy Center and delivered season tickets to their respective fans. Marc-Andre Fleury, Max Talbot, Kris Letang, Chris Kunitz, Pascal Dupuis, Mike Rupp, Craig Adams, Eric Goddard and Brent Johnson played delivery boys to more than 30 season ticket holders in the Pittsburgh area. This is why the Penguins are #1 in fan appreciation. You can read more and see pictures and video by following this link to the Penguins' website.

Of course you could get all this information from www.penguins.nhl.com, but I thank you for checking out the watered-down version at the MSM.

Let's go Pens,
B Brog
