Yinzers,
Today we mourn the loss of the voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins, PA announcer John Barbero. Barbero had been the PA announcer at the Civic Arena since the 1972-73 season and announced every single goal of Mario Lemieux's career at the Igloo. "On behalf of the entire Penguins organization, I want to express our deepest sympathy to John's family," said Lemieux, now the team's owner. "John was one of a kind, a true professional, and he always will be remembered as a member of the Penguins family. He will be missed."
Barbero's last game was game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2009. Since then, he had been battling a brain tumor and passed away last night at age 65. Barbero will be honored as a member of the Pens' All-time team in a new display at Consol Energy Center.
